We’ve all been there – pressing the remote over and over, wondering why nothing’s happening. If your garage door opener isn’t responding, chances are it’s time to change the battery in your remote.
Luckily, it’s a quick and simple fix. Here’s what to do:
STEP 1: OPEN THE REMOTE
There are a few different styles of remotes, so how you open yours might vary:
- Some have a slot on the side – just pop a flat screwdriver into it and give it a gentle twist. (image)
- Others have a sliding battery cover that clicks or slides down. (image)
- If you don’t see a slot or sliding cover, check for small screws on the back (sometimes behind a sticker). You’ll need a mini screwdriver to take these out. (image)
Once the cover comes off, you’ll see the battery inside.
STEP 2: REPLACE THE BATTERY
Take note of the battery type before you remove it – it’s important to replace it with the exact same type.
Popular battery types include:
- CR2016 (round coin-style) (image)
- CR2025 (round coin-style) (image)
- CR2032 (round coin-style) (image)
- A23 (long, small battery) (image)
You can pick these up at most major stores like Coles, Woolworths, Bunnings, or Battery World. Or if you prefer online shopping, there are plenty of options there too.
STEP 3: DISPOSE OF THE OLD BATTERY SAFELY
Batteries are a choking hazard, especially for young kids, so always keep them out of reach. Don’t just toss them in the bin – most supermarkets and hardware stores have battery recycling bins.
